International Service Desk (ISD)

Maastricht offers support for expats to settle in the Maastricht region. Through these webpages you will find information on living, working and business in our region.

The municipality and its partners will further develop the services of the International Service Desk Maastricht Region. Naturally, we will keep you informed of the progress on this website. At the GemeenteLoket (Municipal Service Desk) in Maastricht, you can visit the (as yet unmanned) International Service Desk on the first floor. Currently, this desk enables you to visit relevant websites. In the near future, the municipality Maastricht wants to receive people here as well.

Business

If you would like to know more about the possibilities Maastricht Region has to offer to businesses and organisations, please contact the international acquisition team.

Make an appointment at the International Service Desk

If you would like to make an appointment to talk to someone from the International Service Desk in person, please send an email to international@maastricht.nl with a suggested time/date and a telephone number where we can contact you to confirm or change the appointment.

This service is mainly intended to help new arrivals in the area to obtain further information relevant to their stay, by asking about aspects that that were not covered during initial registration at the City offices. It is of course always possible to ask questions of the International Service Desk by telephone or email at any time.

What are your ideas about Maastricht's future?

Later this year the City of Maastricht will be putting together a new structure plan with its ideas of what the city should be like in 2030 to make optimal use of the space available. The ideas included will help the city with its long-term planning.

The City asked for input from inhabitants, organisations and people who “use” the city, not only the Dutch inhabitants and other interested parties in Maastricht and the surrounding region, but also the international population and those people living in the city for shorter periods.
If you have questions about this survey please do not hesitate to contact us via international@maastricht.nl.

Meet & Greet Maastricht

'Meet & Greet Maastricht' was initiated by Maastricht University’s Knowledge Centre for International Staff (KCIS), International Staff Society and the Municipality of Maastricht’s International Service Desk Maastricht Region (ISDMR), with the support of several companies and organizations. The idea behind this initiative is to bring like-minded people from the region together in an informal setting.

'Meet & Greet Maastricht' will take place every last Thursday of the month at Café Zuid from 17.30 onwards.

Sport activities en Jog round Maastricht for internationals

To encourage its population to stay active, the Municipality of Maastricht has developed a short programme of sports activities under the guidance of one of the members of its sports department. If you would like to take part, please get in touch, or send an email, and we will pass it on.

The page 'Voor iedere leeftijd een sport' gives the details of the basic programmes, but it is subject to change. If there is sufficient demand, it might be possible to organize a new session or a new sport.

On 19 April 2011 Maastricht Running tours organised a jog round Maastricht for internationals.
Small groups of about 6 people who jog at about the same rate joined together for a tour of the city, which included a visit to the Derlon Roman remains, the Bischopsmolen, the city walls and the Hellpoort, the statue of d’Artagnan, and the Stadhuis.

If you like running, want to meet new people, and would like to join another run, please get in touch with info@maastrichtrunningtours.nl.

Expat of the Year Award 2011

The Knowledge Centre for International Staff (KCIS) has won the Expat Award 2011 in the Expat Service Provider of the Year category. The nomination came from the Maastricht City Council International Service Desk. The Service Desk and KCIS work closely together, for instance, on creating a lively international community in the region.

KCIS was one of five finalists, drawn from 26 candidates. Besides the award for the best Service Provider, awards were made in the categories best Expat Employer and the best Expat of 2011. On Tuesday 29 March the winners of all three categories were announced during the official prize ceremony at Nyenrode Business University.

The jury report showed that KCIS gained the most public votes by far, but the jury was also enthusiastic about the manner is which KCIS cooperates with other organizations in the region and its personal touch when dealing with its clients, the UM’s many knowledge workers.

The KCIS provides a range of services relating to immigration and social integration to its international staff so that they can make a good start to their stay in Maastricht. KCIS also assists UM staff who move abroad for a temporary period.
“We would like to thank the International Service Desk Maastricht Region for their nomination. Cooperation with the region is important for KCIS because the new international staff are not only coming to work for the UM, but they also come to live in a different social environment.
Both aspects are equally important to the member of staff for the success of an international assignment” according to Veronique Eurlings, KCIS project manager.
