Maastricht Europe
Maastricht is unmistakably a very European city and is located in the heart of Europe only an hour by car from Brussels, Antwerp, Luxembourg, Cologne and Düsseldorf.
Throughout its long and rich history, the city has always had a very European character. Maastricht is the city where in 1992 the European Union and the European currency were both born. The city is, quite understandably, very proud of having hosted the signing of the Treaty of Maastricht.
Maastricht boasts an airport, a University Hospital, a university, and more than 100 international institutes. Although their activities are quite varied, they have one thing in common: thanks to their extensive and vibrant networks, they are in intimate daily contact with the entire world.
Maastricht aims to continue its European role in the future and further strengthen its European profile. We can only succeed if, as a municipality, we work on this in a broad-based fashion together with the province, the university and college, the European (educational) institutions, and the regional business community. The Maastricht Europe programme makes an important contribution in this regard by working together with other players to organise international symposia, conferences and other events. In addition, it is also important that the account management activities for international institutes and institutions are carried out even more professionally and, where necessary, more energetically. In this regard, we also aim to involve the expats living in our international city.
